Manuka Honey

Mossop’s Manuka honey is sourced from various areas throughout the North Island from Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) which is commonly referred to as Tea tree.

Manuka shrubs grow up to 4 meters in height and can be found in many different lowland habitats including wetlands, riversides and hillsides. They are very tolerant of drought, waterlogging, strong winds and frost and have sharp-tipped leaves, large, solitary white or pink-flushed flowers, with distinctive, dark red stamens.

Manuka varies in colour from light to dark amber and has a strong herbaceous flavour.

Mossop’s Manuka honey Quality Assurance

Mossop’s strive to provide top quality products as our reputation for honey production relies on the integrity of our products and the credibility of our systems. In 2018 The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) created a new Manuka Standard which approves two grades of Manuka Honey.  Monofloral Manuka (high level) and Multifloral Manuka (low level blend).  The multifloral Manuka standard should have been at least equal to our original red label Manuka blend, however after several packs and trials in 2018 while attempting to meet this lower standard, we discovered that the new MPI multifloral standard was considerably lower than our Manuka honey blend standard.  As a result we have decided to sell only Monofloral Manuka that meets not only the MPI Monofloral Manuka Standard, but also to meet higher levels of Methylglyoxal (MG).

We are pleased to report that all this year’s Mossop’s Manuka honey also meets the requirement for UMF5+ as well as the higher level MPI Monofloral Manuka standard.  This is a great reassurance to you, our customer, of the quality and integrity of our products.
